Malaysian Government Extends Green Electricity Tariff (GET) Programme

Government's Green Electricity Tariff (GET) Programme offers discounted renewable energy rates, fostering environmental sustainability and encouraging widespread adoption

The government has announced the Green Electricity Tariff (GET) program is returning this year. Launched in 2021, this initiative lets individuals source their electricity from renewable resources. Its goal is to reduce air pollution and is available to customers of Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) eager to contribute to environmental preservation.

So far, the GET plan has done well. It has given 6,762 gigawatt hours (GWh) of clean power to 2,461 users in different groups. It meets needs for a greener world.

The Ministry of Energy Transition And Water Transformation, with the Energy Commission, looked again at how the plan works to keep users happy.

A big change this year is subscribers won't pay extra if there's a mismatch in energy supply and use. This move shows the government supports efforts to be more green.

Now, the price for clean power is cheaper. Homes and small businesses pay 10 sen per kilowatt-hour (kWh), while bigger businesses pay 20 sen per kWh. This is less than last year's 21.8 sen per kWh.

People can join the GET plan through the myTNB portal starting May 3. They can also pick a start date from January 1. The plan renews each year on December 31 unless you opt out.

From this plan, it will help move the country towards using more clean energy, like setting up the Solar for Rakyat Scheme (SolaRIS) to boost clean energy use.

Keeping the GET plan going is a step towards a cleaner, greener future.
