PM Anwar Strengthens Germany-Malaysia Relations by Stressing the Transition to Green Energy
During his visit to Berlin, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized Malaysia's long-term appeal and potential for green and digital economic growth

What is Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar's agenda on his trip to Germany? He's not simply sightseeing; he's got some serious business planned! Datin Paduka Dr Adina Kamarudin, Malaysian Ambassador to Germany, revealed the details during a news conference with Malaysian media covering the premier's visit.
Anwar is scheduled to have a private meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and pay President Frank-Walter Steinmeier a courtesy call. These gatherings will cover a wide range of subjects, both national and international. Do you recall last year's visit to Malaysia by President Steinmeier? He lauded Malaysia as a crucial location for German businesses, and Anwar is now carrying on their legacy.
There are now more than 700 German businesses operating in Malaysia, supporting 65,000 employments. Anwar is focused on the small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) that are the backbone of the German economy. He will be visiting Siemens Energy, a major leader in the renewable energy space, on Monday. The main focus of Siemens Energy is generating electricity from biomass, water, wind, and sun. Nice, huh?
Anwar has a business roundtable with thirty European industry leaders and possible investors on Tuesday. Why? Because Malaysia provides unique tax incentives, assistance from organizations like MIDA, and an English-speaking populace, German businesses like what Malaysia has to offer. With our One Stop Center, they feel at ease and business is easy.
What's the talk of the town? Climate change, palm oil exports from Malaysia to Europe, and other topics. Anwar is also having a conversation with Robert Habeck, the Deputy Chancellor, before to delivering the keynote speech at the "Mittelstand or SME Future Day" on Wednesday.
Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan will accompany Anwar on this journey, as will Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz and Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick. Malaysia and Germany have been trading partners since 2000, and our overall trade with Germany is expected to expand by 5.9% in 2023 to RM63.45 billion (US$13.90 billion).
