Ricoh Accelerates Net-Zero Emissions Targets by a Decade
Ricoh strengthens its commitment to fighting climate change by pushing its Scope 1 and 2 zero greenhouse gas emissions targets to 2040 and stepping up its Scope 3 reduction efforts, guaranteeing a complete transition to renewable energy

Ricoh, the Japanese electronics conglomerate, is stepping up its efforts to combat climate change. They've just announced several important initiatives that will undoubtedly help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
For starters, they are not going to wait. Ricoh is accelerating their net-zero ambitions, hoping to achieve them by 2040. That is a full decade earlier than previously expected. But they're not going to stop there. They also pledge to use 100% renewable energy throughout the board. That means no more depending on nonrenewable resources such as gas and oil.
Now you might be asking how they intend to pull this off. Well, they have a strong plan in place. Ricoh is working on three major areas: Scope 1, 2, and 3. Scope 1 includes powering their buildings and converting their vehicles to electric. Scope 2 involves increasing their use of renewable energy sources. What about scope 3? That means going out to their suppliers and ensuring they are also on board with the green mission.
However, it is not limited to Ricoh's internal operations. They're also reaching out to their customers to encourage them to take action against climate change. Because, let's face it: we're all in this together.
Mikako Suzuki, a Ricoh executive, put it succinctly: "Climate change is a major issue, and we are addressing it seriously. By meeting our net-zero targets early and involving everyone, we are not only benefiting ourselves, but also the world."
Ricoh is not new to the renewable energy market. They've been a member of the RE100 organization since 2017, working alongside some of the greatest names in industry who are committed to using 100% renewable electricity.
And they have been making steady progress. Last year, they improved their game by adjusting their greenhouse gas reduction targets. And with these recent announcements, they're throwing things into high gear.
And if they can accomplish it, maybe we can too.
