Sarawak's Big Hydrogen Dream

The Asia Pacific Green Hydrogen Conference & Exhibition (APGH) 2024 was planned as a home-grown event to position Sarawak as a leader in the Green Hydrogen Economy.

It's somewhat of a big thing that Sarawak wants to become a hydrogen hub by 2027. Here is what Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is very confident about, explained in simple terms.

Sarawak already operates a hydrogen production plant in collaboration with Gentari Sdn Bhd and SEDC Energy Sdn Bhd. Premier Abang Johari smiles as he says Sarawak is on the right road. They're even collaborating with Japan and South Korea to make it happen.

And there's more! There was a lot of signing at the Borneo Energy Transition Conference 2024. SEDC Energy and Sarawak Metro collaborated on the Rembus H2 Plant project. So, what exactly is that? It's like the heart of the Kuching Urban Transport System (KUTS) project, bringing hydrogen into the picture.

The Rembus H2 Plant is managed by SEDC Energy, which goes by the hip acronym SEDCE. Everything from construction and operation to fuelling stations will be handled by them. Rembus H2 is all about creating, supplying, and refueling a location using hydrogen. And for what purpose is it used? the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system's primary source of power.

Robert Hardin, CEO of SEDCE, is excited about this endeavor. He believes it's all part of SEDC Energy's mission to advance Sarawak's energy industry. These folks aren't new to the game; they've been there since 2019, rocking the energy industry and dabbling in hydrogen production alongside their regular petroleum retail company.

The Sarawak government wants hydrogen to become a commonplace element in our daily lives, not simply some kind of magical industry. The dream is to use hydrogen not just in manufacturing but even at home! Furthermore, the Rembus H2 Plant functions akin to a superpower by ensuring that hydrogen is available to everyone.

What makes this important to you, then? Sarawak is going to be a global hydrogen revolution superstar. They are doing more than simply talking the talk; they are acting on it. Making Sarawak a hydrogen center with the Rembus H2 Plant is a significant step, and who knows—this may be the start of something truly monumental for the energy sector. We are looking forward for more Sarawakian hydrogen adventures.
